Bug List

Bug List
1)    I hate how the smallest amount of clutter in a small room can make it look infinitely messier due to lack of space.
a)    It looks messy, though, because the lack of space allows for more units in the building.
2)    I don’t like how, on lofted beds, one does not feel as secure and sometimes the bed rocks.
a)    They may be less secure because it is on stilts, but the height and lower sturdiness is compensated for by the extra space that is opened up under the bed.
3)    I’ve never liked walking to my car in the dark in some kind of a parking lot/garage setting like from where I live to Norman Garage; it doesn’t feel safe.
a)    This happens because there isn’t enough parking around this area on campus.
4)    There aren’t separate lanes for scooters, so not only do they seem less safe because cars can go faster than scooters but scooters should be able to go around cars because they can fit into places that cars can’t.
a)    This is because if there were separate lanes, it could result in even more danger, not to mention a new way of laying out roads, turn lanes, etc.
5)    Scooters aren’t covered from rain.
a)    One of the largest advantages of scooters is their smaller size, so if there were a part built in as cover, it would take up more space.
6)    I always listen to music on my way to class, but I can’t listen to music while it’s raining.
a)    This is because the phone will get water damage due to exposed ports and sensitive technology.
7)    Having to shuffle past people in seating rows in class when there are a bunch of seats in the middle but people are sitting at the ends.
a)    This is because no one really wants to be stuck in the middle, so whoever gets there first is going to pick the most sought-after seat, the exit seat, and there are only so many of them in row seating.
8)    Flip flops not staying on my feet when they get wet.
a)    They are made to be light and airy, so in a situation where something is exposed to the elements they won’t be much help and the rain/water will make it harder to walk in them.
9)    When I wake up early, I have to go down to the kitchen because if I use the coffeemaker in my room, it will wake up my roommates.
a)    My Keurig makes a loud noise when it is heating up and brewing coffee.
10) I hate having to wash my hands if I have something on them, such as paint, but then I don’t want to touch the faucet because it will get dirty.
a)    Things like paint are spread by physical contact, such as turning a faucet.
11) I actually despise sitting in traffic, so Archer road between 3 and 5 PM is horrible.
a)    There are certain times of the day when a lot of people need to be moving in the same general area at the same general time.
12) I hate when you want to listen to a song but you can’t remember the name.
a)    This is usually because the name isn’t what you remember the song for, it’s the music, so the name isn’t imprinted in your memory
13) I hate when I eat a lot of ice cream and then I gain weight.
a)    Ice cream is full of sugar, fat and empty calories and an increased intake of empty calories that is not counterbalanced with extra physical activity will result in calorie surplus, therefore storing excess fat.
14) I don’t like when people make silly grammar mistakes like the wrong form of you’re or there.
a)    Not everyone is as familiar with grammar rules as I am.
15) I get very angry when people use inappropriate language in an ice cream store where there are small children.
a)    These people are not considering those around them or their wishes.
16) I hate when some stores have the same product for different prices, like the agave at Publix being $5 and $3.29 at Walmart.
a)    Some stores have to have higher prices for certain product because of outside issues like shipping, employee wages, quality control, etc.
17) Sometimes when I go for a run, I can’t go as far as usual because I get shin splints.
a)    I don’t stretch nearly as much as I should and I never ice my shins.
18) If you scratch at a bug bite enough, it leaves a scar that stays a lot longer than the bite.
a)    Scratching the bite breaks skin, causing your skin to have to form a scab and take a longer time to heal.
19) All of the treadmills at Southwest Rec Center are usually taken at peak hours.
a)    Running on a treadmill is one of the most popular forms of exercise, especially in Florida where the heat makes it hard to run outside.
20) Sometimes when I try to pet dogs they run away from me.
a)    These dogs aren’t used to me and my excitement in seeing a dog is probably significantly terrifying to a dog.

Reflection:

In trying to come up with my bug list, I noticed the easiest thing to do was just observe my surroundings and take notes in my phone. I don’t think I would have been able to come up with this many things if I had just done it all at once sitting at a deck. The truth is, it’s actually pretty easy to find things to complain about, not to mention that it makes you feel kind of silly when you realize the “why” portion is something out of our hands, like gaining weight when we eat poorly. I think the biggest challenge was differentiating between why the bug existed versus why it bugged me specifically.

  1. Hello!
After reading through your bug list I have to say that I definitely agree with most of your bugs. I definitely understand the sense of not feeling secure on a loft bed and how the smallest amount of clutter makes a room look like a total mess. I agree that it was much easier to create this list once I looked at my surroundings and realize all of the things that frustrated me. Great job on your post!

I think my favorite experience with this class is the interactive nature of it. If we weren’t in the small groups, we wouldn’t have had the chance to see each other’s ideas evolve and grow. It was nice to have a few specific ideas that we could follow along with our own. I don’t think of myself as an Entrepreneur quite yet, but I do think I have a different perspective on things. To those who come into the course, I would say be creative in your posts. The more you invest in your posts, the less it will seem like an assignment and the more it will seem like something you’ve created.

25A What's Next?

Existing Market: 1.      What’s Next: There will be no service workers that actually work in the field. The only workers would work in an office or in a remote location where people could purchase details or go for customer service. I would also need to heavily market the product and work on pricing. 2.      After the interviews, I learned from my interviewees that they would prefer a better pricing option than that of UF or Gainesville parking decals. They agreed that, with a product like this that would significantly improve their everyday life, they would be willing to pay a decent amount of money similar to that of UF’s, but would like an option for monthly or quarterly pricing. 3.      For the future, I think the plan would need to focus on improving the current, most similar service, parking. Decals are very present on this campus and I wouldn’t want to introduce something too drastically different than what peop...

My product/service would solve the issue that there aren’t separate roads for scooters in places such as the University of Florida where there are many people who ride scooters every day. This issue not only poses danger but also causes a lot of traffic and makes what should be a five minute commute take 30 minutes. To solve this problem, I would offer a service that constructs roads specifically for smaller vehicles in a place with a lot of walking traffic, such as the UF campus. There would be specific decals for purchase that would allow people to ride scooters or smaller vehicles on the path as well as crosswalks for pedestrians. These could be used with UF parking decals and would attract both students and faculty. It would also benefit drivers because there would be fewer scooters on the road.
