In all truth, it was very hard to find people who seemed to have the need (every person I interviewed either has a scooter or rides one at least occasionally) and didn’t support the idea of having a separate road for scooters. When I did finally find some people who felt that way, all but one said they wouldn’t use it because they wouldn’t want to pay for another decal. The fifth person just didn’t believe that UF would support such a large project.  Though these people all have scooters or frequently ride on scooters of their friends, they are all used to being on the same roads as cars and don’t know how much of a difference. One girl, a third-year UF student with a scooter, said she would like to use it on a trial basis; that is, get to use the road for free for about a week and see how she liked it and if it would be worth paying for. At no time did I say how much the decal would cost, so I assume that all of them just assumed it would be the same price as a campus parking...

My product/service would solve the issue that there aren’t separate roads for scooters in places such as the University of Florida where there are many people who ride scooters every day. This issue not only poses danger but also causes a lot of traffic and makes what should be a five minute commute take 30 minutes. To solve this problem, I would offer a service that constructs roads specifically for smaller vehicles in a place with a lot of walking traffic, such as the UF campus. There would be specific decals for purchase that would allow people to ride scooters or smaller vehicles on the path as well as crosswalks for pedestrians. These could be used with UF parking decals and would attract both students and faculty. It would also benefit drivers because there would be fewer scooters on the road.

7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

1)     I would like focus on the opportunity that comes from a lack of separate scooter trails in UF and many other schools. 2)     Colleges in the United States that have a large amount of the student body riding scooters on a regular basis do not have roads or trails specifically for scooters because it would require a large construction effort. WHO: Owners of scooters/mopeds who wish to have a separate road from cars. WHAT: Those who ride scooters are subject to danger and heavy traffic when they have to share the road with cars. WHY: Separate roads for scooters would require a large disruption and construction on campus. 3)     Testing the who: This applies to college students with scooters, but there are also many non-students who ride scooters. This would also benefit those who drive cars by significantly reducing traffic around campus. Testing the what: What vehicles would be allowed to use this road and how would ther...
