1.     Baby Boomers aren’t retiring
b.     I found this on the Balance, which listed some of the top economic trends in America right now.
c.     I think the shift from the traditional stages of retirement opens up a whole new market of older, yet still working adults.
d.     The prototypical customers are adults who are at traditional retirement age, yet plan to keep working.
e.     This opportunity seems like it would be somewhat easy to exploit, because it is kept to one age group who all come from the same general generation with shared ideas and beliefs.
f.      I saw this as an opportunity because I live with my grandmother and I see how she has a different perspective than I on everyday things like clothes, advertisements, etc. People her age, though they have different cultures and beliefs, still approach things in a similar way. For example, she has a lot of trouble with even simple technology, as do many other people her age.

2.     Detroit Real Estate Heats Up

b.     I found this on The New York Times Money section.
c.     I think the growth of real estate prices can open up better markets for lower-cost and temporary solutions, as well as urban living furniture like IKEA made for small spaces.
d.     The prototypical customer are the lower-income, and younger demographics in Detroit.
e.     This opportunity seems like it would be somewhat hard to exploit because it covers a large variety of demographics and could apply to multiple markets.
f.      I saw this as an opportunity because, as I’m nearing the end of college, I speak to older friends who have had to start buying houses or looking into more permanent living solutions and for friends who work in NYC or similar places, the cost of living is surreal compared to the small amount of money they make and they have to go out of their way to find affordable living.

3.     Iran, North Korea sting Trump amid nuclear standoffs

b.     I found this on CNN Politics.
c.     I think the rise of talk of Nuclear war could actually spark fear in citizens and open up an opportunity for services and products that people think would keep them either informed or safe as new regulations and statements are being released in the world.
d.     The prototypical customer is truly anyone who is genuinely scared of the idea of Nuclear war.
e.     This opportunity seems like it would be very hard to exploit, considering it is such a scary and unknown topic, not to mention that you’d have to tiptoe around the fact that you’re trying to make money off of people’s fear.
f.      I saw this as an opportunity because many of my friends and I see constantly things on the news about terror attacks and nuclear tests, but we rarely know the details because we’re too lazy to read or look into it, so if it was made to seem like a bigger deal and we thought we would have to do something about it, we would be more likely to look for solutions.

4.     The one major reason Graham-Cassidy could pass

b.     I found this on CNN politics for recent legislation.
c.     I think the potential for insurance to exclude pre-existing conditions could open up an opportunity to cater to those who are victim to this piece of legislation.
d.     The prototypical customer is someone who this new bill applies to who no longer has insurance or bills covered.
e.     This opportunity seems like it would be somewhat challenging to exploit because people take insurance very seriously and trying to find some kind of “alternative” to something as important as health insurance.

f.      I saw this as an opportunity because I live very close to Shands Hospital and it is always in conversation in some form. Many of my friends volunteer there or work there, and they are constantly talking about how alternatives are needed for people who have children with diseases or cancer but can’t afford or can barely afford treatment. If this bill does pass, this problem will only skyrocket and there really will be a HUGE need for alternatives.

  1. Hello! I found similar article as well that could be used as an opportunity. My favorite trend that you chose was the first one about Baby Boomers not retiring as quickly as expected. There are huge opportunities in that population to be found. A friend of mine went into geriatric research for that reason. You did a great job at finding the opportunities in the trends that are happening in today's world.

I think my favorite experience with this class is the interactive nature of it. If we weren’t in the small groups, we wouldn’t have had the chance to see each other’s ideas evolve and grow. It was nice to have a few specific ideas that we could follow along with our own. I don’t think of myself as an Entrepreneur quite yet, but I do think I have a different perspective on things. To those who come into the course, I would say be creative in your posts. The more you invest in your posts, the less it will seem like an assignment and the more it will seem like something you’ve created.

25A What's Next?

Existing Market: 1.      What’s Next: There will be no service workers that actually work in the field. The only workers would work in an office or in a remote location where people could purchase details or go for customer service. I would also need to heavily market the product and work on pricing. 2.      After the interviews, I learned from my interviewees that they would prefer a better pricing option than that of UF or Gainesville parking decals. They agreed that, with a product like this that would significantly improve their everyday life, they would be willing to pay a decent amount of money similar to that of UF’s, but would like an option for monthly or quarterly pricing. 3.      For the future, I think the plan would need to focus on improving the current, most similar service, parking. Decals are very present on this campus and I wouldn’t want to introduce something too drastically different than what peop...

My product/service would solve the issue that there aren’t separate roads for scooters in places such as the University of Florida where there are many people who ride scooters every day. This issue not only poses danger but also causes a lot of traffic and makes what should be a five minute commute take 30 minutes. To solve this problem, I would offer a service that constructs roads specifically for smaller vehicles in a place with a lot of walking traffic, such as the UF campus. There would be specific decals for purchase that would allow people to ride scooters or smaller vehicles on the path as well as crosswalks for pedestrians. These could be used with UF parking decals and would attract both students and faculty. It would also benefit drivers because there would be fewer scooters on the road.
