11A

My name is Megan Carney. I am a third-year advertising student at the University of Florida. I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and love it here. I consider myself a part of the UF and Gainesville community and I know a lot of friends who feel the same way. Like many other UF students, I have a scooter here in  Gainesville. One thing that I deal with on almost a daily basis as a scooter owner is getting stuck in traffic when I’m riding my scooter around traffic. I also get weary about riding on the same roads as as cars. My idea for a business would be a service that installs separate roads specifically for scooters and other smaller vehicles.

This road would cut through a campus or any large area that has limited roads and a lot of foot traffic. People would be able to purchase a decal to use this road and park on it. It would, for example, cut through Plaza of the Americas and would get students to class much more quickly  and take traffic off the roads for cars. This road can be used by faculty or by students, and even Gainesville residents. Anyone who frequently comes through campus could use this, but it would be mostly college students.

The value derived from this comes from saving time that’s wasted when scooters have to deal with traffic, as well as having safer commutes to class without having to share the road with cars. This would be catered specifically to universities, but could work for other areas. It would be specifically made for scooters so it would be different from any road services.

I think these elements mesh well with each other. College students are the perfect market for this, and they are already constrained to the area exactly where the product would be. When I try to think of any discord, my only hesitations come from the uniqueness of the service. Though it is uniquely for scooters, it still is just a smaller version of a road, which obviously already exists.

  2. Great post and great idea, Megan! This idea would not only be a benefit for students, but as someone who used to deliver food around campus, this could definately benefit car drivers too. Half of my job was dodging pedestrians and scooters, so this would improve the safety and the flow of the roads around campus. It would also, like you said, let students get to class faster.

  3. Hey Megan,
I do enjoy the thought of your idea. I think this is something that needs to be implemented here in Gainesville as well as other college towns alike. Maybe though instead of one decal being required it is something you renew yearly like a lease or like a subscription that you pay for monthly; that way you are continuously making money.

30 Final

I think my favorite experience with this class is the interactive nature of it. If we weren’t in the small groups, we wouldn’t have had the chance to see each other’s ideas evolve and grow. It was nice to have a few specific ideas that we could follow along with our own. I don’t think of myself as an Entrepreneur quite yet, but I do think I have a different perspective on things. To those who come into the course, I would say be creative in your posts. The more you invest in your posts, the less it will seem like an assignment and the more it will seem like something you’ve created.

14A- Tenacity

1)     This course has assignments that require more of you than just waiting until 8 PM the night of the due date and throwing out any answer. Going into this course, I didn’t realize how open-ended these assignments were, meaning I thought my answers were one of a million, but after reading the posts from others in my group, I realized we all have such different perspectives on how we approached problems. After I picked up on that, I began seeing the value in these posts and looked at them as much more than a simple assignment. I think one of the best ways to keep up with this course is to take a second to realize the value behind each assignment, and take them seriously. 2)     I think one of my most memorable “giving up” moments would have to be in freshman year of high school. I got sick and would get incredibly tired to the point where I couldn’t lift my arms, but I went to doctors for almost a year without getting diagnosed. That was one of the h...

25A What's Next?

Existing Market: 1.      What’s Next: There will be no service workers that actually work in the field. The only workers would work in an office or in a remote location where people could purchase details or go for customer service. I would also need to heavily market the product and work on pricing. 2.      After the interviews, I learned from my interviewees that they would prefer a better pricing option than that of UF or Gainesville parking decals. They agreed that, with a product like this that would significantly improve their everyday life, they would be willing to pay a decent amount of money similar to that of UF’s, but would like an option for monthly or quarterly pricing. 3.      For the future, I think the plan would need to focus on improving the current, most similar service, parking. Decals are very present on this campus and I wouldn’t want to introduce something too drastically different than what peop...
