In all truth, it was very hard to
find people who seemed to have the need (every person I interviewed either has
a scooter or rides one at least occasionally) and didn’t support the idea of
having a separate road for scooters. When I did finally find some people who
felt that way, all but one said they wouldn’t use it because they wouldn’t want
to pay for another decal. The fifth person just didn’t believe that UF would
support such a large project.
Though these people all have scooters or
frequently ride on scooters of their friends, they are all used to being on the
same roads as cars and don’t know how much of a difference. One girl, a
third-year UF student with a scooter, said she would like to use it on a trial
basis; that is, get to use the road for free for about a week and see how she
liked it and if it would be worth paying for. At no time did I say how much the
decal would cost, so I assume that all of them just assumed it would be the
same price as a campus parking decal, which most people think is overpriced. I
asked them how much they would be willing to pay, and the highest anyone said
was $50 per semester, but more if it included additional parking.

Hello Megan,
ReplyDeleteI think that charging for a decal for this service may be the wrong way to go about it. I think a more efficient way that could be appealing for students would be a toll system. This way students can only use the lane when they need to, whether they are late for class or just need to get to campus quickly. As long as the price is something understandable like 25-35 cents I think students would happily pay. As for the decal you can still offer it to those who know they will take it every day.
Hi again! So maybe if this project goes somewhere you would have to take it to UF and see maybe if they can just add to their parking decal an extra amount of oney like for example $20 more and that goes towards your benefit? Because i dont think anyone would want to pay 2 separate decals being the UF that high.
